Staff Hardware Design & Signal Integrity Engineer

Job Description

Cerebras Systems builds the world's largest AI chip, 56 times larger than GPUs. Our novel wafer-scale architecture provides the AI compute power of dozens of GPUs on a single chip, with the programming simplicity of a single device. This approach allows Cerebras to deliver industry-leading training and inference speeds and empowers machine learning users to effortlessly run large-scale ML applications, without the hassle of managing hundreds of GPUs or TPUs.

Cerebras' current customers include global corporations across multiple industries, national labs, and top-tier healthcare systems. In January, we announced a multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnership with Mayo Clinic, underscoring our commitment to transforming AI applications across various fields. In August, we launched Cerebras Inference, the fastest Generative AI inference solution in the world, over 10 times faster than GPU-based hyperscale cloud inference services.

Cerebras Systems Inc. has multiple openings for Staff Hardware Design & Signal Integrity Engineer

Job Duties:

  • Design and optimize high-speed chip-to-chip interfaces on printed circuit boards of AI compute systems.
  • Perform pre-layout and post-layout simulations for high-speed serial and parallel interfaces, ensuring optimal power delivery network performance. Utilize advanced simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, Cadence) to validate signal integrity and power integrity for critical hardware systems.
  • Build signal and power integrity validation methodology and develop detailed engineering test plans. Conduct signal validation of high-speed interfaces (Serdes, Ethernet, DDR) using TDR (time-domain reflectometry), VNA (vector network analyzers) and oscilloscopes.
  • Determine PCB stackup materials and construction structures to meet hardware performance requirements and coordinate with external fabrication teams to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Review the PCB schematics and layout to ensure good signal integrity and power integrity. Define design rules and ensure best practices are used by applying transmission line theory and microwave engineering concepts.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot power delivery networks by performing DC and AC simulations and correlating lab measurements to ensure optimal performance of hardware systems.
  • Collaborate with the silicon design team to evaluate and select high-speed IP, review design aspects such as PCB stackup, bump/ball assignment, and simulation results for signal integrity and power distribution networks.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and  3 years of experience as Senior Signal Integrity Engineer, Senior Signal Integrity Engineer II, Staff Hardware Design & Signal Integrity Engineer, or a related occupation required.

The required work experience must include 3 years of experience with the following skills:

  • High-speed serial and parallel interfaces design;
  • PCB stackup construction;
  • Oscilloscopes, Vector Network Analyzer and TDR;
  • 3D Simulation Tools; and
  • Analyze and troubleshoot power delivery network.
